Hi! It’s Sensei.
“My training ends in six months, and I’m going back to my country…”
“Good job on your work in Japan!”
But you must absolutely NOT just leave as is.
You had expensive “Employee Pension (Kosei Nenkin / 厚生年金)” deducted from your monthly salary, right?
Actually, foreigners leaving Japan can get that money back.
The amount is, believe it or not, an average of 600,000 to 800,000 yen (for those who worked for 3 years).
This is not a bonus. It’s your money.
Today, I (Sensei) will teach you the procedure for the “Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment (Dattai Ichijikin / 脱退一時金)” that you must not forget.
How much will come back?
It depends on the type of pension you paid and how long you worked, but here is a general guide.
💰 Estimated Amounts
- 👤 Worked for 1 year: Approx. 200,000 yen
- 👤 Worked for 2 years: Approx. 400,000 yen
- 🌟 Worked for 3 years: Approx. 600,000 – 800,000 yen!
*This is an example. It varies based on your salary.
With this money, you could start a new business or build a house in your home country.
Make sure to do the procedure!
Who can get it? (Conditions)
Those who meet all three of the following conditions are eligible.
- ✅ People without Japanese citizenship
- ✅ People who paid Employee Pension for 6 months or more
- ✅ People who no longer have an address in Japan (after returning home)
⚠️ Caution: When to do the procedure?
This is something you apply for “after leaving Japan (after returning home).”
You cannot apply while you are still in Japan.
However, you must prepare the “Application Form (Shinseisho / 申請書)” while you are still in Japan!
3 Things to Do Before Returning Home
Do at least these things before boarding your flight.

👉 【With Photos】4 Documents You Must Never Throw Away -
Set up your bank account (in your home country)
The money will be transferred to your country’s bank in dollars (USD), etc. -
Prepare the “Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment Claim Form”
The documents to get the money can be downloaded from the Japan Pension Service (Nihon Nenkin Kiko / 日本年金機構) official website.
Choose your country’s language (English, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc.) and print it out!
*If doing it yourself is difficult, you can ask a professional like an Administrative Scrivener (Gyoseishoshi / 行政書士), but the fees are high. Try researching it yourself first.
Summary: Don’t let your guard down until the end!
This is money you worked hard for in Japan.
Don’t be lazy; make sure to receive every last yen.
If you are staying in Japan by switching to “Specified Skilled Worker (Tokutei Ginou / 特定技能)” instead of returning home, you don’t need to do this procedure.
